Now that I have looked at the Article of Impeachment more closely, I think the Senate should have been permitted — required — to vote on the various charges separately. Although the ultimate result would have been the same, there is a great difference between the allegations regarding health care and and Canadian drugs and the various schemes and plots with which Blogo was charged. Of course doing so would have required the Senate to make distinctions it may not have been prepared to make.
On the other hand the blending together of the various allegations will leave very murky guidelines for future governors.
Not only was this a dilution of due process for Blogo, it was a dilution of the Senate’s responsibility.
